Arlene Marshall-Turner, RN, MSN, a nurse on TUH-Main Campus’ 7B Med/Surg unit, recently received the DAISY Award for nursing excellence. Marshall-Turner was recognized for her exceptional bedside manner and commitment to going above and beyond for her patients and their families, as this excerpt from her DAISY nomination shows:
“In a nutshell, Arlene has been a godsend to our family. My father has been at Temple for over a week. The moment we met her, we knew she was the one. On numerous occasions, she has taken the time to explain to us exactly what was happening with his medication and treatment plan, in terms we could understand. She has also developed the most caring and compassionate relationship with my dad and the rest of my family that I could ever hope for. We trust her and her ability to care for him in our absence. When it was time for him to be discharged, we learned how special she really is. She explained the discharge options in a way that only the most educated, dedicated, and passionate nurse could do. She treated us like family, and we are thankful that she is in our lives.”
The DAISY Award was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away from an autoimmune disease. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring, and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, and created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
