Samosas. Thin Mints. Peanut Butter Patties. Once you hear the names, you instantly want a box. That’s how irresistible Girl Scout cookies are—and it’s why we were so thrilled to learn that Troop 7511 was donating 60 boxes to Fox Chase Cancer Center at Temple University Hospital.
Several of the Girl Scouts visited campus to deliver the cookies in person, accompanied by one of their parents, TUH Physical Therapist Rachelle Pretz, PT, DPT, CLT-LANA. They handed out boxes to patients and staff, who were delighted to receive the delicious treats.
“Our troop is based out of the Montgomery County/Plymouth Meeting area, and each year, we choose somewhere nearby to donate cookies,” Pretz explains. “This year, we picked a local firehouse and the Cancer Center here TUH.”
“The response has been great,” Pretz continues. “I actually work with some of these patients as a Physical Therapist, as well as with several of these providers. Everyone has been so accommodating not only in accepting the cookies, but in going out of their way to show the girls what a positive impact they’ve been able to make through their donation.”
It’s a sweet (toothed) way to give back to our community—and one that’s resonated with the troop members. “They’ve worked really hard during cookie season: they do all these booths, and they try to sell to their families,” Pretz says. “So when it comes time to make these donations, it means a lot for them to be able to come here and see the difference they’ve made firsthand.”
