Temple Health announced today that Temple University Hospital – which includes its Main Campus, Jeanes Campus, Episcopal Campus and Northeastern Campus – is one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for both cardiac care and gastrointestinal surgery for 2023, according to new research released by Healthgrades, a leading marketplace connecting doctors and patients. This achievement reflects Temple Health’s outstanding clinical outcomes for cardiac care and gastrointestinal surgery and puts Temple University Hospital (TUH) in the top 2% of hospitals nationwide for cardiac care and gastrointestinal surgery. It’s the second year in a row that TUH has been named one of America’s 100 best for gastrointestinal surgery.
“Temple is proud to earn the distinctions of being one of America’s 100 best hospitals for both cardiac care and gastrointestinal surgery,” Abhinav Rastogi, MBA, MIS, President and CEO of Temple University Hospital and Executive Vice President of Temple University Health System. “Temple features highly skilled, multidisciplinary specialty care teams that are leaders in providing patients with advanced care using leading edge technologies in state-of-the-art facilities. This national recognition is further acknowledgement of the excellent care and superb clinical outcomes that patients receive here at Temple.”
Healthgrades evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 31 of the most common conditions and procedures at nearly 4,500 hospitals across the country to identify the top-performing hospitals for specialty care. This year’s analysis revealed significant variation in patient outcomes between America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care and for Gastrointestinal Surgery and hospitals that did not receive these distinctions. For example, from 2019-2021, patients treated at hospitals receiving the America's 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care Award have, on average, a 29.0% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award.* Additionally, from 2019-2021, patients treated at hospitals receiving the America's 100 Best Hospitals for Gastrointestinal Surgery Award have, on average, a 30.0% lower risk of experiencing a complication or dying while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award.*
