AATS Daily News highlighted a presentation by Valeda Yong, MD, a general surgery resident in her research years at Temple University Hospital (TUH), on gender differences in cardiothoracic surgery fellowship letters of recommendation. Dr. Yong and co-author Kaleb Rostmeyer, third-year medical student at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, are part of a multidisciplinary lab with Cherie P. Erkmen, MD, Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery and Professor in the Center for Asian Health at the Katz School of Medicine and Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency Program and the Lung Cancer Screening Program at TUH, that has been investigating health disparities, including workforce disparities.
