Çagla Tükel, PhD, Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, offered insight to Contagion Live about a new study showing a first-of-its-kind therapeutic molecule, a type of monoclonal antibody, holds promise in breaking apart communities of harmful bacteria known as biofilms to open the way for antibiotics. These biofilms are notorious for forming on implanted medical devices and on tissues in the body. Dr. Tükel was the senior author on the study, which was published in the journal Nature Communications.
