Temple University Health System’s preparations for and treatment of patients amidst the coronavirus pandemic continue to be part of the media’s COVID-19 coverage.

  • The Wall Street Journal featured the insight of Gerard J. Criner, MD, FACP, FACCP, Chair and Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and Director of the Temple Lung Center, in an article about how the treatment of COVID-19 has evolved as fall and winter approach.
  • Deborah L. Crabbe, MD, FACC, FAHA, Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM), joined 6ABC to discuss receiving a $150,000 funding award through the Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Awards program, an initiative of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). The funds will support the establishment of a research ready community partnership focused on developing a set of priorities and an agenda for research on Racial and Sex-Specific Cardiovascular Disease Disparities in COVID-19. Dr. Crabbe will lead the project at LKSOM. Heather Gardiner, PhD, Director of the Office of Community-Engaged Research and Practice and Associate Professor and Director of the Health Disparities Research Lab in the College of Public Health at Temple University, will co-lead.
  • Sara Goldrick-Rab, PhD, Professor of Sociology and Medicine at Temple University and Founding Director of the Hope Center for College, Community and Justice at LKSOM, and the Hope Center’s work are featured in the documentary Hungry to Learn, in which Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning broadcaster Soledad O’Brien and her team shine a light on college students facing the choice of paying for school or paying for food and housing. Yahoo! Life highlighted the film and an article by O’Brien reporting on how the coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated these issues.
  • Edward Conroy, Associate Director of Research Communication at the Hope Center for College, Community and Justice at LKSOM, spoke with Diverse Issues in Higher Education about the issue of student homelessness during the coronavirus pandemic. The Hope Center released a study in June about needs insecurity among college students because of the pandemic.
