Jamie Garfield, MD, Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery and Core Clinical Educator at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and Director of Quality and Improvement and Patient Safety, Core Clinical Faculty, Internal Medicine Residency, at Temple University Hospital, offered insight to WHYY and the American Lung Association about the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s proposed ban on menthol cigarettes. Eighty-five percent of Black smokers and approximately 36 percent of LGBT smokers use menthol tobacco products.
