Jamie Garfield, MD, Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, provided perspective for a PhillyVoice article about the health disparities the LGBTQ+ community experiences with tobacco use. The LGBTQ+ community has higher rates of tobacco use, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and faces barriers to smoking cessation treatments. In the interview with PhillyVoice, Dr. Garfield advocated for multiple actions that could prevent tobacco-related illnesses and reduce barriers to smoking cessation in the LGBTQ+ community.
