Jamie Garfield, MD, Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, provided perspective for a PhillyVoice article about the health disparities the LGBTQ+ community experiences with tobacco use. The LGBTQ+ community has higher rates of tobacco use, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and faces barriers to smoking cessation treatments.
