Dr. Jessica Beard Joins Panel at University of Missouri School of Journalism to Present ‘Second Trauma’ Documentary on News Coverage of Gun Violence and Its Impact on Victims and Families

Jessica H. Beard, MD, MPH, FACS, Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care and Director of Trauma Research at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, joined a panel at the University of Missouri School of Journalism to present “The Second Trauma,” a documentary about the ways in which news coverage of gun violence can negatively impact victims and their families. The panel also included Jim MacMillan, Director of the Philadelphia Center for Gun Violence Reporting (PCGVR); Yvonne Latty, Director of the Logan Center for Urban Investigative Reporting at Temple University; and Oronde McClain, PCGVR’s Credible Messenger Newsroom Liaison and survivor.
