Dr. Jessica Beard Joins Temple Update to Discuss Recently Published Research on Firearm Violence in Philadelphia during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Jessica H. Beard, MD, MPH, FACS, Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of Trauma Research at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, joined Temple Update to discuss a recent research letter published in JAMA in which she led a team of researchers, including Drs. Amy J. Goldberg and Zoe Maher, who found a significant and sustained increase in firearm violence in Philadelphia following the enactment of COVID-19 containment policies. Dr. Beard also discussed approaching firearm violence as a public health issue as well as addressing its root causes as part of the Temple Update interview.
