Riyaz Bashir, MD, FACC, Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM) and Director of Vascular and Endovascular Medicine at Temple University Hospital, shared the story of how his patient Kim Brophy’s feet and toes were saved from gangrene, and her lower legs from the brink of amputation, in the Philadelphia Inquirer’s “Medical Mystery” column. Brophy, who had developed blood clots, has a grandson who is best friends with the son of Paul Forfia, MD, Professor of Medicine at LKSOM and Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension, Right Heart Failure and CTEPH Program at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Forfia recommended she see Dr. Bashir for a second opinion.
