Scott Rawls, PhD, Professor of Pharmacology and Professor in the Center for Substance Abuse Research at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, and student Allison Amodea spoke with the Times News about Dr. Rawls’ educational initiative – the Science Education Against Drug Abuse Partnership – that illustrates the effects of various substances (caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, sugar) to students. Dr. Rawls uses planarians (flatworms) in his demonstrations because their reactions to these substances are similar to those of mammals. The program will visit the Tamaqua Area School District on April 24.
