Dr. Walter Koch and Post-Doctoral Fellow Kenneth Gresham Discuss Research on GRK2, an Enzyme That Communicates between the Heart and Fat Cells

View All News

Ivanhoe Broadcast News produced a segment about research conducted by Lewis Katz School of Medicine scientists that led to a breakthrough paper published online in the journal JCI Insight. This research was the first to provide evidence of communication between heart and fat tissue by GRK2, a signaling enzyme and cardiac-specific messenger. The heart relies on GRK2 to relay information about metabolism to fat cells. The findings could have implications for modulating weight gain in patients with heart failure. Walter J. Koch, PhD, the William Wikoff Smith Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine, Professor and Chair of Pharmacology and Professor and Director of the Center for Translational Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM), and Kenneth Gresham, PhD, Post-Doctoral Fellow at LKSOM, were interviewed for the piece. The segment was picked up by WJAR-TV in Providence, Rhode Island.
