Jonathan B. Bakst, MBA, MHS, PA (ASCP), Vice President for Laboratory Operations at Temple Health, spoke with WHYY about how Temple is addressing the nationwide shortage of blood culture bottles. Health care providers and labs routinely use these bottles to test for infections in patients’ blood. They contain a solution that helps bacteria grow. The manufacturer states the problem is due to issues with the supply of plastic. The Philadelphia Tribune picked up the WHYY article.
