Miranda Haslam, a second-year medical student at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, wrote an op-ed for The Philadelphia Inquirer supporting physicians who share their views on gun violence. In the article, Miranda explored the contrasts between her upbringing around guns in northern Berks County and her first time in the Temple University Hospital Emergency Department’s trauma bay, where she encountered a boy with six gunshot wounds who did not survive.
