A new study by researchers at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University shows that balloon pulmonary angioplasty can be effective for treating patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) who are not able to undergo surgery. The study, one of the largest investigations of balloon pulmonary angioplasty in the United States to date, appeared online in the journal JACC: Advances. Healio Cardiac/Vascular Intervention interviewed Riyaz Bashir, MD, FACC, RVT, Director of Vascular and Endovascular Medicine at Temple University Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, senior investigator on the new study, about the findings. The Healio article was featured in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s newsletter.
