John W. Elrod, PhD, Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Associate Professor in the Center for Translational Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM), is the senior investigator on a new study published online in the journal Nature Communications. Dr. Elrod and a team of LKSOM researchers show how specialized cells known as fibroblasts activate and healing cells called myofibroblasts form, providing clues on how to target fibrosis, which impacts several chronic diseases – including liver cirrhosis, pulmonary fibrosis and heart failure. Media outlets, including Scienmag, News-Medical.net, ScienceDaily and Science Codex, publicized the findings.
