In a new study published online in the journal Cardiovascular Research, scientists at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM) show in mice that reducing levels of GRK5 (G protein-coupled receptor kinase 5) can significantly improve survival following heart attack. Walter J. Koch, PhD, W.W. Smith Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine, Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Director of the Center for Translational Medicine at LKSOM, is the study’s senior investigator, and the study’s lead author is Claudio de Lucia, MD, PhD, an associate scientist in the Center for Translational Medicine at LKSOM. Outlets including Medical Xpress, Scienmag and News-Medical.net highlighted the research.
