Jonathan Soboloff, PhD, Professor of Medical Genetics and Molecular Biochemistry and Professor in the Fels Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Biology at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM), in collaboration with Dietmar J. Kappes, PhD, Professor of Blood Cell Development and Cancer at Fox Chase Cancer Center, and a team of LKSOM and Fox Chase researchers, have shown for the first time that a molecule known as EGR4 serves as a critical brake on immune activation. Their new study, published online in the journal EMBO Reports, shows that removing EGR4 – releasing the brake – promotes the activation of T cells, which infiltrate and attack tumors and thereby boost anticancer immunity. Media outlets, including Medical Xpress, Scienmag, Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News and News-Medical.net, covered the news.
