Newspaper Profiles Lung Transplant Patient Thomas Puskar and Dr. Yoshiya Toyoda for Article about TransMedics Organ Care System for Lung

The Standard-Speaker profiled patient Thomas Puskar, the first patient at Temple and the first in Pennsylvania to benefit from the TransMedics Organ Care System for Lung, or OCS Lung. Temple University Hospital was the first hospital in the state to perform a breathing lung transplant using the OCS Lung following U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of the device for standard and expanded criteria donor lungs. The article also featured comments from Yoshiya Toyoda, MD, PhD, William Maul Measey Chair and Professor of Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University; Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery, Surgical Director of Thoracic Transplantation and Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support at TUH; and Co-Surgical Director of the Temple Heart and Vascular Institute. Dr. Toyoda was Mr. Puskar’s surgeon.
