Gerard J. Criner, MD, FACP, FACCP, Chair and Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and Director of the Temple Lung Center, and patient Terry Levins spoke with the Northeast Times about the Temple Healthy Chest Initiative. The system-wide lung cancer screening program combines and expands successful screening programs already in place at Temple University Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center and also simultaneously screens for other common comorbidities, such as undiagnosed lung or heart disease, osteoporosis, sleep apnea, diabetes, and other cancers. Cherie P. Erkmen, MD, Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery and Professor in the Center for Asian Health at the Katz School of Medicine and Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency Program and the Lung Cancer Screening Program at TUH, performed the scan on Terry that detected stage 1 lung cancer and recommended a treatment plan.
