Thanks to a new seven-year, multi-million-dollar grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health, Satya P. Kunapuli, PhD, Professor of Physiology, Professor of Pharmacology and Director of the Sol Sherry Thrombosis Research Center at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, will be able to focus his research on how platelets become activated to form clots that ultimately lead to cardiovascular diseases like stroke and heart attack. The possible answers he discovers could open the way to the development of new preventative strategies and drug therapies for cardiovascular disease. The new grant is an NHLBI R35 award funded with $950,000 each year, over a period of seven years, which provides long-term support and flexibility. Scienmag highlighted the news.
