Researchers at the Center for Asian Health, Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and Fox Chase Cancer Center have received a new five-year, $4 million grant award from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to expand research on structural racism and discrimination (SRD) to include Asian-Americans. The grant is the first of its kind to support research that addresses the impacts of SRD on liver cancer and liver disease in high-risk Asian-Americans. Grace X. Ma, PhD, Associate Dean for Health Disparities, Founding Director of the Center for Asian Health, and Laura H. Carnell Professor in the Department of Urban Health and Population Science at the Katz School of Medicine, is the Principal Investigator on the NIH award. A Philadelphia Business Journal article highlighted the news and included quotes from Dr. Ma and from Amy J. Goldberg, MD, FACS, Interim Dean and George S. Peters, MD and Louise C. Peters Chair and Professor of Surgery at the Katz School of Medicine and Surgeon-in-Chief of Temple Health.
