Philadelphia Corporation for Aging Highlights Innovative Treatments at Temple Including COPD Trial at Temple Lung Center and Recent Advancements in Shoulder Surgery

Among a roundup of innovative treatments that Philadelphia hospitals are providing to patients, the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging highlighted a COPD trial available at the Temple Lung Center that is investigating a procedure to fix naturally occurring openings in the walls of the lung by closing them up with foam. Gerard J. Criner, MD, FACP, FACCP, Chair and Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, is the principal investigator of this trial called CONVERT II. In the same article, Leslie A. Barnes, MD, Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine at the Katz School of Medicine, shared recent advancements in shoulder surgery that focus on minimizing recovery time and improving outcomes. Dr. Barnes emphasized the expanded use of arthroscopic techniques, advances in 3-D imaging and pre-operative planning software, and the continued development of implants tailored to individual anatomy, which are becoming more common.
