A Philadelphia Inquirer article highlighted the new admissions process at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. For the first time, five North Philadelphia community members interviewed prospective medical students in the Class of 2026 and had a say in the Admissions Committee’s decisions. The Student Diversity Council was instrumental in the design and implementation of the process. The Inquirer article included interviews and photos of:
- Amy J. Goldberg, MD, FACS, Interim Dean and George S. Peters, MD and Louise C. Peters Chair and Professor of Surgery at the Katz School of Medicine and Surgeon-in-Chief of Temple Health.
- Jacob W. Ufberg, MD, Associate Dean of Admissions, Interim Assistant Dean of Career Advising and Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Katz School of Medicine.
- Randolph B. Lyde, MD, PhD, a 2022 Katz School of Medicine graduate who founded and chaired the Student Diversity Council.
- Sidnei Newman, the new Chair of the Student Diversity Council.
- Naida Elena Montes, one of the community interviewers.
