A Philadelphia Inquirer article highlighted Temple University Health System’s new way of watching costs that combines financial and clinical information. The computer program, which is called PowerCosting, allows managers to comb through operations and look for ways to be more efficient, weed out excess costs, make more accurate budgets for existing and new programs, and better negotiate with insurers. The cost-tracking system is intended to improve the quality of care while also reducing costs. Michael A. Young, MHA, FACHE, President & CEO of Temple Health; Christopher Snyder, Chief Financial Officer of TUHS; and Daniel del Portal, MD, MBA, Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer of TUHS, were interviewed for the Philadelphia Inquirer article. Becker’s Hospital CFO Report picked up the Inquirer article.
