Physicians and medical students attended a conference at the National Constitution Center on April 11th that examined how Philadelphia medical schools can combat racial disparities in the medical profession. A Philadelphia Inquirer article on the event referenced the new admissions process at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. For the first time, five North Philadelphia community members interviewed prospective medical students in the Class of 2026 and had a say in the Admissions Committee’s decisions. The Student Diversity Council was instrumental in the design and implementation of the process. Comments from Maria Zimmerman, Associate Director of Admissions at the Katz School of Medicine, were included in the Inquirer article.
