The Philadelphia Inquirer published two pieces on the rise of diabetic amputations that emphasized Temple’s expertise and efforts at combatting the issue. One extensively highlighted the Temple Limb Salvage Center and the work of Eric T. Choi, MD, FACS, Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Temple University Hospital, Chair of the Clinical Research Committee for the Center for Metabolic Disease Research at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM), Professor of Surgery and Professor in the Center for Metabolic Disease Research at LKSOM, and Co-Surgical Director of the Temple Heart and Vascular Institute. The article exclusively focused on patient Carmen Suero and the Limb Salvage Center team’s work to save her left pinky toe from amputation. The second article featured Dr. Choi, patient Darryl Newell, and his wife, Cynthia. Mr. Newell was recovering from a leg amputation.
