The Philadelphia Inquirer interviewed Nicolle Strand, Director of the Center for Urban Bioethics at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, for an article about voter registration efforts at Philadelphia-area hospitals. Temple Health Votes is designed to promote voter registration and civic engagement for Temple Health patients and members of the North Philadelphia community. Volunteers undergo training and carry out a variety of activities for many of the program’s efforts, including voter registration canvassing events in the North Philadelphia community, voter registration tables in Temple Health hospital lobbies, and emergency absentee balloting for Temple patients who want to vote but are hospitalized on Election Day. Temple Health’s Office of Patient Experience is lending support in these efforts.
