Temple Health’s Excellence in Health Equity: WHYY, FOX29 and 6ABC Highlight Free Colorectal Cancer Awareness Event Held by Temple Health That Featured Giant Inflatable Colon and Free Stool-Based Colorectal Cancer Tests

View All News

As part of a program launched by Temple Health in collaboration with Fox Chase Cancer Center and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, free stool-based fecal immunochemical test (FIT) kits were made available in the Temple University Hospital Boyer Pavilion lobby on March 28th. The free FIT kits were part of a free colorectal cancer awareness event hosted by Temple Health that also featured a giant inflatable colon and information about colorectal cancer, prevention and treatment. The program aims to improve access to screening for colorectal cancer and close disparities in outcomes, as colorectal cancer disproportionately affects Black Americans. WHYY interviewed Abraham Ifrah, MD, an internal medicine resident, ahead of the event. 6ABC and FOX29 provided coverage of the event itself, with FOX29 including an interview with Rishabh Khatri, MD, Internal Medicine Chief Resident at the Katz School of Medicine. The Philadelphia Tribune also picked up the WHYY coverage.
