Today.com shared the story of Rick O’Keefe, who learned he had stage 4 kidney cancer when he broke his right clavicle (collarbone) playing tennis. When doctors began planning his treatment, they discovered he had a horseshoe kidney – a condition where the kidneys are attached to one another with a band of tissue. His tumor was in between them. Rick’s fiancé Elly Rumbach researched surgeons who had operated on horseshoe kidneys and found Daniel D. Eun, MD, Chief of Robotic Surgery and Director of Minimally Invasive Robotic Urologic Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery at Temple University Hospital. Rick had a successful surgery in March of this year.
