Kelly McGinn-Ucci with her DAISY Award.

Kelly McGinn-Ucci, RN, a nurse in the Nephrology unit at TUH-Main Campus, recently received a DAISY Award for nursing excellence. She was singled out for her insistence on going above and beyond for her patients, as this nomination from a patient’s family member shows:

“Kelly has always called us to let us know my mom’s lab results. She contacts us every month to let us know if my mom needs her medication. She always checks on my mom, and even waited for us to come to the office without an appointment or without advance notice to show me or help me with my mom’s medication. Thanks to her, my mom, who is disabled, doesn’t have to go into the lab. That’s because Kelly arranged for the services my mom needs to come to our house, which has been a huge help.”

The DAISY Award was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away from an autoimmune disease. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring, and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, and created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
