Nicholas Barcellona has been named Chief Financial Officer of Temple University Health System (TUHS), effective September 8. He joins Temple from UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP), where he was VP of Operations, VP of Pediatric and Academic Affairs, and Executive Administrator for Pediatrics—overseeing operations and administration for CHP’s surgical and ambulatory services and the Pediatrics Department. Before that, Barcellona was Chief Financial Officer for CHP, as well as for Pennsylvania Pediatric Health Network, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, UPMC Rehabilitation Network, and UPMC Mercy. Before his tenure at UPMC, Barcellona served on the Corporate Audit Staff at General Electric.

“Nick knows what it takes to build and sustain a well-integrated and financially strong Health System,” said Michael A. Young, MHA, FACHE. “His significant leadership experience makes him a tremendously valuable addition to our Temple team.”

Barcellona joins several other new members of the leadership team who recently joined TUHS, including Chief Nursing Executive Angelo Venditti (previously at Geisinger); Chief Information Officer Deborah Cancilla (previously at Atlantic Health); Chief Pharmacy Officer Amir Emamifar (previously at Emory and WellStar Healthcare); Lab Executive Christopher Burks (previously at Montefiore Medical Center); and AVP of Ambulatory/340B Pharmacy Services Anaila Moreau (previously at Jackson Health System).

Barcellona has successfully led teams across a broad range of activities including surgical services, ambulatory operations, physician practice plan management, research administration, facilities oversight, business development, productivity, supply chain management, patient access, health information management, master trust asset management, compliance, accounting, auditing, and financial management.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Pennsylvania State University in Computer Engineering, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business.
