Nina O’Connor, MD, FAAHPM, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, and Temple Faculty Physicians Chief of Service and Primary Care Service Line Director. Dr. O’Connor will remain Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Temple Center for Population Health.

Goldberg, MD, FACS, The Marjorie Joy Katz Dean of the Katz School of Medicine. “In her new position as the Department of Family and Community Medicine Chair, Dr. O'Connor will champion faculty development and mentoring initiatives, and ensure a supportive work environment that encourages personal and professional growth.”
“As Chief Medical Officer of the Temple Center for Population Health since 2022, Dr. O’Connor has played a crucial role in developing and implementing clinical strategies to support population health and ambulatory quality at Temple Health,” said Michael A. Young, MHA, FACHE, President and CEO of Temple Health.
“Dr. O’Connor has collaborated closely with physicians and leaders at Temple Faculty Practice Plan and Temple Physicians Inc. to drive successful practice transformation,” said Claire Raab, MD, President and CEO of Temple Faculty Physicians. “She has also overseen nurse navigation and primary care quality for population health. She will be continuing in this role for Temple Health.”
Before her appointment at Temple, Dr. O’Connor worked at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, where she served as CMO of Subacute and Therapy Services and CMO of Penn Medicine’s home health and hospice agencies, home infusion companies, home palliative care program and community health worker program. Prior to her CMO appointments at Penn, Dr. O’Connor was the Chief of Palliative Care for Penn Medicine and Fellowship Program Director and was a Professor of Clinical Medicine at Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine. She also served as Medical Director at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock and as Faculty and Director of Community Medicine Curriculum for Chestnut Hill Family Practice Residency in Philadelphia.
Dr. O’Connor earned her bachelor’s degree from Yale University and her medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She completed her residency in family medicine and fellowship in faculty development at the University of Virginia as well as a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
