Eclipse mania has swept the nation, and things are no different here at Temple Health! That’s why our Department of Ophthalmology decided to host a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party on April 8.
Located on the top level of Temple Health-Main Campus’ Ontario West Garage, the party was open to all Temple Health team members and Lewis Katz School of Medicine faculty, staff, and students. The roof was packed with onlookers, with Channels 3 and 6 there to film the action.
Jeffrey D. Henderer, MD, Dr. Edward Hagop Bedrossian Chair and Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology, organized the event. It included Sun Chips, Starbursts, chocolate and vanilla Oreos, and other cleverly-themes snacks, as well as a solar filter and 150 pairs of protective glasses to ensure safe viewing.
The eclipse itself began at 2:08 pm, with the highest coverage occurring at 3:23 pm. While there was a bit of cloud cover toward the end, our observers still had an excellent view. Scroll through the photos below to see more from the party, and check out your colleagues who were there for this almost once-in-a-lifetime event!
