Temple University Hospital (TUH) – including its Main, Episcopal and Jeanes Campuses – has earned a spot on the 2024 Fortune/PINC AI 100 Top Hospitals® list. This list ranks hospitals on a scorecard of objective performance measures including clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience, financial health and community health survey performance.

TUH is also ranked #9 in the nation among Fortune/PINC AI’s 15 Top Major Teaching Hospitals, part of the 100 Top Hospitals® list.

Compared to peer hospitals, Top Hospitals had:

  • 39% fewer inpatient deaths than peer hospitals

  • 26.6% fewer patients with complications

  • 30.6% fewer healthcare-associated infections

  • 21.1% lower inpatient expense per discharge

  • 0.5-day shorter average length of stay

  • Better reported patient experience scores

TUH also earned a 100 Top Hospitals® Everest Award. The Everest Award recognizes the hospitals on the current year’s 100 Top Hospitals® list that also achieved the highest rates of improvement on these performance measures over a five-year period.

TUH was also one of 6 hospitals nationwide (and the only one in Pennsylvania) to earn the 100 Top Hospitals® Community Champion Designation for delivering outstanding care in communities that serve a higher proportion of patients with significant social challenges.

“We are pleased to be recognized with these honors,” said Abhi Rastogi, MBA, MIS, President and CEO of Temple University Hospital and Executive Vice President of Temple University Health System. “This recognition affirms what we already know: that Temple University Hospital is among the best of the best and that’s because of the hard work and expertise of our Temple Health team and their exceptional dedication to our patients.”

To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, researchers from PINC AI, the technology platform for the healthcare company Premier, evaluated 2,601 hospitals across the country using publicly available Medicare data that reflect measures of clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience, and financial health. Their analysis also considers a survey-based measure intended to capture a hospital’s contribution to health and health equity in its community.
