Temple University Hospital (TUH) performed 124 lung transplants in calendar year 2022, making it the number 1 volume program in the nation, according to the latest data from the Scientific Registry for Transplant Recipients (SRTR).
What’s more, the data showed Temple University Hospital’s lung transplant program has the best 1-year survival outcomes in the region, and 1-year lung transplant survival rates continue to exceed national averages, reaching an institutional high of 92%.
Temple has proven to be a national leader, performing more lung transplants than any other program in the country over the past 8 years, according to SRTR accumulated data from January 2015-July 2023.
“The continued achievements of the Temple Lung Center are a testament to the expertise of our transplant team – including physicians, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, social workers, and support personnel – and a measure of Temple’s commitment to serving patients with advanced lung disorders,” said Michael A. Young, MHA, FACHE, President and CEO of Temple University Health System.
The lung transplant program, which has performed over 1,000 transplants and established a reputation for securing transplantation for even the most complex patients, includes pulmonologists Drs. Gerard Criner and Francis Cordova and transplant surgeons Drs. Yoshiya Toyoda and Norihisa Shigemura.
