Temple University Health System has received the City of Philadelphia’s inaugural 2019 Employer of Choice Award. The award was presented by the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Workforce Development to organizations that have shown exemplary practices in hiring, talent development, retention, and culture which create opportunity and level the playing field for Philadelphians seeking to connect to career ladder opportunities.
Among the 13 employers honored with this award, Temple was the only health system to make the list, and scored the highest among the awardees.
In a congratulations letter to awardees, the Office of Workforce Development wrote: “Your organization’s demonstrated focus, on employing cutting-edge human resource management and talent development practices, is a model that should be replicated across Philadelphia’s business community.”
“We envision building a professionally facilitated mentoring relationship between the Employer of Choice awardees and other employers who are interested in understanding and refining their HR practices to become Employers of Choice in the future,” the letter noted.
“This honor recognizes all Temple University Health System leaders of every title for utilizing hiring, retention, and promotion practices that really do create a talented workforce and rewarding career opportunities for so many Philadelphians,” said John Lasky, Chief Human Resources Officer for Temple University Health System. “This an ‘everyone’ award for our organization because everyone—managers and employees alike—participate in successful talent development.”
The award is the latest in a string of recent recognitions for Temple. This past June, Temple University Hospital earned national recognition on Forbes magazine’s “Best in State Employers” list for Pennsylvania. In September, the hospital was named as an LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader (for the second straight year) from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
