Born with kidney disease and previously suffering a heart attack, Sal needed both a heart and a kidney transplant. Despite previously being told he was not a candidate for a new heart, Temple Health’s expanded heart transplant criteria gave Sal a second chance. Sal received his heart and kidney transplants in May 2023 and a little more than a year later, he threw out the first pitch at Temple Health's I Heart Phillies Night!
