Acute Pulmonary Embolism Symptoms

Symptoms of pulmonary embolism can vary depending on how much of your lung is involved, the size of the clots, and your overall health. Common signs and symptoms include:

  • Shortness of breath that typically appears suddenly and worsens with exertion
  • Chest pain that worsens with deep breathing (pleurisy), cough, eating, bending or stooping
  • Cough that produces bloody sputum (mucus)
