Inherited cardiomyopathy is an inherited condition. In one form, called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the wall of the heart muscle is too thick. Inherited cardiomyopathy often begins in your teens, however, it can develop at any age. It is the most common inherited heart condition in the United States. Inherited cardiomyopathy is a life-threatening condition, but it can be treated. Since cardiomyopathy can be inherited from parent to child, family members should also be examined.
