Information for Cancer Patients

Financial Counseling

An onsite financial counselor is available to assist with your concerns about payment for services. The counselor will work with you to answer questions about your insurance before your first visit so that you will know how much of the cost, if any, you will need to pay. He or she will also be able to help you with referral issues or changes in insurance coverage.

Support Services

Patients and their families can take advantage of a wide range of support and educational programs. Support groups for patients, families and caregivers, as well as a patient resource room with Internet access, are available. Oncology social workers and a patient navigator are here to locate financial, transportation and medically related resources for patients, and to counsel patients and families throughout their cancer experience. The Cancer Center team strongly encourages family involvement during the course of treatment.

Support services include:

Oncology Nurse Navigator

An oncology nurse navigator (ONN) is a professional registered nurse with oncology-specific clinical knowledge who offers individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help overcome healthcare system barriers.

Oncology-Certified Dietitian

An oncology-certified dietitian helps patients customize their nutrition plan of care, which covers all areas of cancer treatment.

Social Work

Social workers provide supportive services such as individual and family counseling, in addition to identifying assistance programs for transportation, medication, equipment, finances, home care and hospice services.
