When to See a Doctor

If you notice symptoms that may signal lung disease, talk to your doctor as soon as possible. Persistent symptoms (such as a cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing) can be caused by damage or disease in the lungs and surrounding tissues. They can also be triggered by a problem with another part of the respiratory system, like the voice box or windpipe.

When you visit a doctor, you may be given tests that examine how much air your lungs can hold and how fast you breathe out. You may also be asked to exercise to see how your body responds to an increased demand for air.

The Temple Lung Center treats nearly every type of lung disease, including complex and chronic problems. Our pulmonary specialists are world-class experts in diagnosing and treating a range of lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer and more.

We are also active researchers, investigating new treatments and therapies that may improve breathing and quality of life for people with lung disease.
