Pulmonary Vascular Disease Program

Pulmonary Vascular Diseases affect the blood vessels leading to or from the lungs and commonly cause shortness of breath. These diseases can have complicated, difficult-to-diagnose causes. For this reason, it’s important to seek out expert care when you have trouble breathing.

The Temple Lung Center’s comprehensive Pulmonary Vascular Disease (PVD) Program is designed to address a wide range of PVD that can coexist with other lung diseases. The collaborative team of specialists in this program provides patients with personalized, coordinated care with a focus on providing breakthrough treatment options and management of symptoms.

Conditions treated:

  • Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension
  • Pulmonary Hypertension due to advance lung disease (COPD, Interstitial lung disease, IPF)
  • Acute Pulmonary Embolism
  • Post Pulmonary Embolism Care
  • Pulmonary Vascular Tumors
  • Vasculitis Pulmonary AVMs
  • Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia

A Collaborative Approach Setting New Standards of Care

The PVD Program has assembled a core team of expert pulmonologists that collaborate closely with other specialists including chest radiologists, nursing, pharmacy, rheumatologists, interventional cardiologists and radiologists, and other specialists. This multidisciplinary approach is critical to successful patient outcomes, and ensures patients receive appropriate treatment plans with streamlined access to any necessary specialists. Members of the program are also board certified in critical care echocardiography, providing comprehensive expertise on Right Ventricular imaging.

Getting the Right Diagnosis and Treatment

Some PVD’s are challenging to diagnose, partly because early symptoms can be ignored or mistaken for other more treatable conditions. Patients may see multiple doctors before they receive the correct diagnosis. Early and accurate diagnosis is critical to finding the most effective treatment and support, which is why it’s important to work with a team who has extensive experience in identifying the specific type of PVD you may have.

Temple’s PVD Program is committed to helping patients with respiratory disease. Our understanding of the disease along with our experience in helping hundreds of patients helps give you the best opportunity for early treatment that will not only improve your breathing but also may extend your life. Our expansive network across multiple campuses also provides peace of mind knowing you have access to care at a location most convenient to you.

Breakthrough Research Advancing Clinical Care

The physician-researchers in the PVD program continuously apply the latest findings in research to personalized patient care, and the program’s integration of clinical care with breakthrough research discoveries enables the team to deliver the highest standard of care while contributing to the understanding and treatment of complex conditions. At Temple Lung Center Pulmonary Vascular Disease program you always have an option to participate in clinical research trials.
