Virtual Visits with Zoom

Ver en Español | информация на русском языке | Xem bằng tiếng Việt

Temple Health offers virtual visits (also called telehealth or telemedicine visits). This allows patients and their families to have a medical appointment with their provider using Zoom video conferencing from the comfort and safety of home.

Telemedicine appointments are handled similarly to in-office visits, and you should plan to discuss all of the same concerns and topics you would in person. Your provider can often evaluate important aspects of your health visually and observe symptoms that may be concerning.

To have an appointment with your provider using Zoom, you just need a mobile device, tablet or computer with Wi-Fi (internet) connection.

Once the virtual visit is scheduled, you will receive a confirmation text message or email with instructions for downloading the Zoom app to your computer or mobile device. On the day of the visit, you can join the video appointment with your provider and discuss your care.

How to invite a family member to your virtual visit

If you would like a support person, such as a family member or friend, to join the visit from a separate device, simply share the Zoom link by copying and pasting the link into a text message or by forwarding the email that contains the invite link. You can also click the “invite” icon when the virtual visit has been launched. Please let your provider know at the start of the visit if you would like a support person to join.

On the day of your virtual visit

1. Make sure your device is working properly:

  • Check your Wi-Fi (internet) source. Make sure the network is private, secure and connected. You should not use a public network.
  • If using a laptop, tablet or mobile phone for the virtual visit, be sure that it’s charged with enough battery for the appointment. This avoids any issues with connecting during the appointment.
  • Make sure your volume is at a level you can hear and that your camera is working.

2. About 5-10 minutes before your scheduled visit:

  • Move to a quiet, private location where you can have your virtual visit.
  • Click the link after “Join from your computer or mobile device” in your appointment reminder text message or email. If using a computer, a new browser window will launch and the visit will start. You should keep this window open until your provider begins the call.
  • You will then be prompted to provide your name and email address. If you do not have an email address, you can use the email of a family member or friend who is comfortable sharing this information. This email address does not attach to your medical record; it is only for the Zoom meeting.
  • At first you will be placed in a waiting room. When your provider joins, your virtual visit will begin. Sometimes your provider may run late. We appreciate your patience.

3. At the end of your virtual visit:

The provider will end the visit and provide next steps for your care.
