Urodynamic Testing

Fox Chase-Temple Urologic Institute’s team of experienced professionals utilizes state-of-the-art technology to offer comprehensive urodynamics testing, helping to identify and address various bladder-related issues. Whether you're experiencing urinary incontinence, frequent urination, or other bladder concerns, our urodynamics testing can provide valuable insights for personalized treatment.

Your urologist will order a urodynamic test to accurately diagnose your condition and develop an effective treatment plan that addresses your symptoms and manages your disorder.

Diagnostic Tests

The Urologic Institute has highly specialized urologists who perform these diagnostic tests to help determine the best plan. Early diagnosis through urodynamics testing can pave the way for effective treatment and improved quality of life.

Cystometry

A catheter measures pressure inside the bladder, providing crucial information on bladder capacity, pressure during storage and voiding, and the onset of the urge to urinate. The procedure involves gradually filling the bladder with a warm solution while monitoring pressure, helping providers assess and diagnose various bladder-related issues.

Electromyography

Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic test that employs sensors to measure the electrical activity of muscles and nerves in the pelvic floor, providing valuable insights into the function of these structures. Electrode patches placed near the urethra and rectum record electrical currents during contractions, aiding in evaluating bladder and sphincter muscle activity.

Uroflowmetry

Uroflowmetry is a diagnostic test that measures the volume and flow rate of urine during voiding, helping healthcare providers assess the efficiency of bladder emptying. Patients are asked to urinate into a specialized machine resembling an electronic toilet, which automatically records and graphs the amount and speed of urine flow.

Video urodynamic tests

Video urodynamics is a comprehensive diagnostic test that combines cystometry, uroflowmetry, and X-ray cystography to assess bladder and urethral function. Using digital equipment, this test measures urine flow and pressure in the bladder and rectum, providing real-time images during filling and emptying to evaluate the size, shape, and functionality of the bladder.
